Zentralfriedhof
Central Cemetery of Vienna
The „Zentralfriedhof“ is – with a size of about 1 mile2– one of the largest cemeteries in the world. It is the largest by number of interred (about 300.000) in Europe and most famous cemetery among Vienna’s nearly 50 cemeteries. It is one of famous places of interest because of its huge number of cenotaphs, art nouveau graves and buildings and its extensive and wild garden.

A lot of wild animals live here: squirrels (mostly confiding tame), kestrels, field hamsters, badgers, martens, frogs and other small animals. Even about 20 roes feel at home on this cemetery. Till mid of the 1980th the Zentralfriedhof was an official hunting area, where a hunter assigned by the forest administration controlled the wildlife population.
